The Family Rundown

There are so many things going on in my personal life right now that I don’t really know where to start. The great part about it is that they’re all good. Rarely in life do we get all good news, so we really need to enjoy those days that we do. With my day job, my family life, and trying to build this site things get pretty hectic. I find myself less in touch with my family and friends than ever in my life, and it’s something that I need to correct. I used to be the person that kept everyone in touch all the time, and now I’m the one that’s heard from the least. It’s funny how things work out like that. Anyway, here’s a rundown of some recent family items that are going on that I’m really excited about.

The adoption process is progressing

As you may know, I’m adopting my stepson. Well, this week we got word from our lawyers that they received the paperwork from his biological father to establish paternity (it was never established before), and that they’re sending out the termination of rights paperwork. This is a huge step in the adoption process, and I’m getting more excited by the day. My relationship with my son has grown so much since we started living together and he really looks up to me and has the morals and temperament of my wife and I. Kids are really amazing, and how fast he’s growing just amazes me. So far the process has gone smooth, and we really like our lawyers. I’m planning on using them for other legal items that I have in life, and really think it will be great for both of us going forward.

My close friends are closing on a house

Some of our closest friends are closing on their first house today! I’m so excited for them, they’re really getting an amazing house for a great price. It’s such a good time to buy right now, and it almost makes me wish I would’ve waited a year. Well, I’m still happy with our house…but they really got a great deal. They’re a little nervous (like most new homeowners) just because it’s a big step and they want to get all those initial bills in to make sure all they’re budget calculations were correct. They’ll be fine though. There is just something special about closing on your first home. It’s a big step, but I still say that my house was the only big purchase I never had an ounce of buyer’s remorse over.

My parents have decided to retire in the city we live in

It’s really funny how things work. When you’re young you never really think about living close to your parents. At least I never did, since we were a military family that moved around all the time. We were used to picking up and leaving and having to adjust elsewhere. But once you get to that semi-independent stage you yearn for freedom and want to be away from them. Then as you get older and have your own kids you really start to appreciate all the amazing things they’ve done for you. Everyday I notice more and more how similar I am to my parents. It’s crazy how that works sometimes. I miss them, and I’m so excited that they’ve decided to retire in the city we live in. I’m looking forward to many great times together over holidays or just random days in general. I can’t wait.

It’s wonderful how hearing great news about people you care about just really lifts your spirits. Even with all the continued stress at work, I’m totally over it right now just because of these things that are happening. I know everyday won’t be good like this, and some feel like they couldn’t possibly get any worse. But when you have an opportunity to hear some good news, cherish it and work towards more if you can. I hope you all have a great weekend and hear some positive news of your own.
