This has really been a crazy week at work and school, it’s obvious to me that I won’t be able to keep this hectic pace and my sanity at the same time. I just have about a month until school is over, so I should see some relief there. I’m a little disappointed that I haven’t been able to get out and promote the site as much this week, and it’s starting to show. Anyway, I’m hoping to get back in the swing of things next week and it should be good.

I did have a little time to find some great articles around the web this week at some sites that I frequent. JD at Get Rich Slowly had an outstanding article on our savings crisis that really outlines the fact that in general we just don’t save enough and the future ramifications of that. It is a must read for anyone out there that is not putting away a considerable amount of money. I know that it has inspired me to put a little extra away every paycheck, and maybe you should find a way to do the same.

I’ve been interested in learning more about home equity line of credit (HELOC) accounts, and at My Money Blog there was an article outlining the reason why every homeowner should have a HELOC. There are some very creative financial tips there that can potentially save you a lot of interest and headache.

I’ve recently been talking about my plan of action for my day job, and one of the articles at The Simple Dollar really hit home with a lot of what I’ve been struggling with at work. With the ten techniques to take control of your own destiny at work, Trent really provides quality tips of things you can do to take your career where you want it to go instead of just waiting for the things you want to happen on their own. Anyone going through the daily grind can benefit from it, even if you’re happy in your current position. Times change and sometimes you need to have prepared ahead of time to come out ahead.

Lynnae at Being Frugal talks about how her experience with surviving job loss has become a big provider of traffic for her site. Being that I have experienced the shock of being laid off, I can relate. Her article is very inspirational with some practical advice to help you get through that type of situation on many different levels.

Retirement planning has been on my mind lately as well, and I did enjoy the commentary from Mrs Micah on diversification and the 401(k). Mine is full of target funds so I don’t really think about it too much, and I’ve never decided to buy company stock (at previous jobs) in my retirement plan. In my opinion it’s putting too many eggs in one basket. Your paycheck is already dependent on that company, I wouldn’t want to include my retirement as well. Obviously, if you believe in a company you’ll want to invest in them (in many ways), but crazy things happen and the last thing you want to do is risk your current ability to pay your bills and your retirement nest egg all at once.

Well, that it’s for this week. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Mrs. Micah Says:

Thanks for including it. :) I think target funds are probably the best choice for people who don’t plan to spend much time on their finances.
