I’ve always been the type of person that thinks they can do just about anything. When I see and read about people who are very successful, very innovative, or are making a positive difference I look hard at what they’re doing and wonder why I can’t do the same thing. It’s a big myth that these “blessed” people are just smarter or luckier than everyone else, there’s more happening here.

When your daily work combines your passion, your ambition, and your time then you can achieve those amazing heights. The struggle that most people go through is that their work doesn’t really involve their passion. People go to work so they can make money for their family. The may even work extremely hard at their jobs so that they can advance and make even more money for their family. But when the passion isn’t a part of the equation, there will always be something holding you back in your career. The trick is to make work not really feel like work. People will spend the majority of their adult lives working, so do you want to spend it doing something you’re not really all that interested in?

While it’s easy to say “yes, I want that” we all know real life is a lot more complicated than that. When you are used to a certain income, and you have a family to support, you can’t just make rash decisions because it’s what you want. Part of being an adult is having to things you don’t really want for the good of your family. This is where a little bit of compromise might be in order. If you need to, decide to start your life’s passion part-time while you still work at your day job. This is the route that I’ve decided to take myself. While it might take you longer to get there, you get the added security of your normal income.

The inspiring part of all this is that there are people out there that have been able to align their passions with their work and still make a good living. These lucky people love getting up to work everyday. Instead of just admiring these people and wondering why it can’t be you, get up and make it happen for you as well. I would say that the majority of stress and frustration in our life comes from either work or financial issues, both of which can be directly related to our happiness in our jobs. Being able to do the things that you are passionate and excited about and get paid for it is a dream we all have, no matter how old you are. The biggest difference between those who have it and those who don’t is that those who have it went for it and didn’t stop until they got there.
